“Perfection Lies In The Details”

Experts for interior and exterior design for the past 20 years, Sabrina Monte-Carlo provides a large selection of furniture, lighting, fabric, linens for the home, tableware, and decorative objects from the world’s leading brands. Sabrina Monteleone-Oeino, principal designer at Sabrina Monte-Carlo, and her staff have completed numerous projects from conception to completion: homes, chalets, yachts, and private jets.

What is your primarily area of design?

Sabrina Monte-Carlo provides a solution for those who are seeking excellence and want to stand out in every sense. That is why we provide our clients with a selection of the best products from the world’s top luxury brands from interior and exterior furniture to fine tableware, and accessories. By collaborating with these brands, we are able to offer our exacting clients an absolute elegance, unexpected combinations, and personalized designs, and no matter where you are, luxury is universal.

What is your source of inspiration?

I start from a simple concept: every client is unique and the design and accessories selected should take that into account. Certain clients know exactly what they want, which helps facilitate our task. Others give us carte blanche. That’s very exciting and it’s also a real challenge for us to fully understand the needs of our clients. In every case, we always offer our expertise and provide advice in the choice of different materials available, colors, textures, the art of mixing styles, the latest trends, and finally, technical questions. For example, aboard yachts due to strict regulations and the salty humid environment, certain standard materials can absolutely not be used.

How different is one project from another?

There are as many clients as there are projects. We strive to provide that which best reflects the personal taste and needs of the client. The key is the ultimate satisfaction of the client. All of our projects are interesting but I have to admit that yachts are always my favorite. Everything aboard a yacht must be thought out in advance. For example, the furniture must remain immobile while the yacht navigates through all kinds of bad weather. Numerous other factors must also be taken into account during the design process. Numerous other factors should be account for at the conception stage as well. Fabrics must be flame retardant, there must be sufficient storage space, and the colors on the inside and outside must be coherent to create a sensation of prolonging the interior spaces…

How much time does it take to complete a project?

The length of a project depends on the project itself. For a 90-meter yacht, it could take us several months. On the other hand, a two-room apartment could be finalized in just a few weeks.

What are the different steps of a project?

Every project starts with a face-to-face conversation with the client. It is very important to understand their tastes and their lifestyle. The most essential thing is to know who they plan to use their property. For example, is a yacht designed for private cruising or will there be business meetings, will it sail more in the summer or the winter, do the clients have small children…

Key points: The success of their work rests on the much quoted aphorism by Michelangelo, describing the inspiration that motivated his endless quest for excellence: “Perfection lies in the details.”

Plus: Having designed more than 90 yachts, Sabrina Monte-Carlo is renowned for their knowledge and expertise in the world of yachting. Every project includes close collaboration with the shipyard, the naval architects, and the best-known designers.

Leclerc-Briant

The Ultimate Organic Chic Champagne,

When Frédéric Zeimett took over the general management of Leclerc-Briant in 2012, the future of this centuries-old champagne company was being questioned by a fair number of observors.

The brand had to start up again, from almost rock bottom, following the death of Pascal Leclerc-Briant, the last in a dynasty of champagne producers, whose origins date back to the 19th century. The majority of the vineyards were sold to competitors, and the American couple that purchased the company inherited only the buildings, the bottles ageing in the wine cellars, and several acres of grapevines.

In four short years, Leclerc-Briant has become a favorite of amateurs and confirmed connoisseurs of champagne, who rave about its sense of innovation and the introduction of new flavors. The French Review of Wines and the Bettane Desseauve Guide have written glowing reviews of the Champagne Blanc de Meuniers premier cru, made exclusively with pinot meunier, the “poor cousin” of the best champagne grapes. This was a first for this region, where tradition is deeply rooted in the vineyards.

For a man with 30 years of experience in top management for such prestigious champagne companies as Moët et Chandon and Chapoutier, Frédéric Zeimett remains humble, and attributes his success to the talents of Hervé Jestin, his cellar master, an oenologist known for his love of biodynamic methods. “Hervé Jestin has a very original approach to his profession,” confides Frédéric Zeimett. “He’s like a wine whisperer. He pushes biodynamic methods to the extreme, both in the vineyards and in the wine cellar, which explains the true uniqueness of our wines.”

There is indeed a unique signature to the Leclerc-Briant brand, which is unique and easily recognizable in its champagnes, with their vibrant and precise character marked by a sense of fruitiness, delicious aromas, a distinct touch of salinity, and the almost total absence of sugar. This is champagne that presents itself without artifice, without pretense, and a wine with vegan certification that is presented in its most natural state.

Something happens during tastings,” adds Frédéric Zeimett. “There is a physiological reaction a very specific emotional response.”

Their leading cru, Divine Solera, is a perfect example. This perpetual vintage combines a symphony of flavors with several generations of wine that blend in perfect harmony. This represents the exceptional sense of refinement that defines the entire range of Leclerc-Briant Champagne.

In Saint Barthélemy, Leclerc-Briant Champagne can be found at In Vino and at Le Barthélemy, the new 5-star hotel that recently open on the shore of the lagoon in Grand Cul-de-Sac.

Reignac: Grand Vin de Reignac

December 30, 2017

A wine that has outclassed the best...

Since 2009, Reignac wines have been gaining in reputation. During a blind taste test of the 2004 and 2001 vintages organized by the European Grand Jury, wine experts put the Grand Vin de Reignac in second place, ahead of many of the best wines from Bordeaux, such as Château Ausone, Pétrus, Château Cheval Blanc.

Château Reignac

Nestled in the country, at the confluence of the Dordogne and Garonne rivers, in the “Entre-Deux-Mers” region between Bordeaux and Saint-Emilion, one finds a rare pearl: Château Reignac.

Since 1990, Yves and Stéphanie Vatelot have carefully tended this beautiful 135-hectare estate, of which almost 80 hectares are planted with grapevines. Convinced that the region had great potential, legendary wine expert Michel Rolland has worked with the owners since their early days at the chateau.

Little by little, thanks to expertise organized in four steps (viticulture, harvesting, wine-making, growing of the grapes) and land that has particularly rich soil (chalky-clay and gravely-clay), these vintners learned to make wines as good as those with the appellation Bordeaux Supérieur.

Four Vintages

The quality of these wines ranges from elegant and dense to an exquisite okay flavor. Château Reignac produces: Château de Reignac, Grand Vin de Reignac, Balthus, Reignac Blanc. Each equally appealing, the most prestigious of these wines, the Balthus, sells for approximately 60 euros.

Prices starting at:

Château de Reignac: 9.5 €, a good wine at a reasonable price

Grand Vin de Reignac: 21.5 €, intense bouquet, full and structured taste, this is a marvelous, well-balanced, rich wine

Balthus: 60 €

Reignac Blanc: 29 €

Key points: Grand Vin de Reignac beat some of the best Bordeaux wines in a blind taste test

Plus: Château de Reignac won the 2018 International Best Of Wine Tourism Prize in Chile.

Vacheron Constantin: ENRICHES ITS OVERSEAS COLLECTION

Created in a spirit of casual elegance and practicality, the new Overseas watches equipped with Manufacture movements – including three new calibres – embody the new generation of self-winding timepieces inspired by the spirit of travel. The models world time, chronograph and automatic/date and small model are now offered with brown dials.

Like the other references from the Overseas collection, these new watches in steel bear the Hallmark of Geneva and are fitted with easily interchangeable bracelets/straps, a guarantee of comfort anywhere in the world.

Une signature

Flowing, ergonomic lines, subtle light effects and delicate finishes place the new Overseas models firmly within a timeless yet distinctly contemporary aesthetic universe. The curves of the case ensure seamless integration with the bracelet or strap, a feature that is both technically sophisticated and aesthetically pleasing. The six-sided bezel and the fluted crown with its grooves evoke the Maison design codes. Coated with a translucent brown lacquer that intensifies the depth effect, the dials alternate between sunburst, snailed and velvety finishes. The screwed-down caseback fitted with a sapphire crystal reveals the 22K gold oscillating weight adorned with sandblasted, polished and finely grained finishes, and with a wind rose, a universal symbol indicating the cardinal points for travelers.

Overseas heures du monde Calibre 2460 WT

The brown dial of the Overseas world time displays no less than 37 time zones, including those that are off-set by a half-hour or quarter-hour in relation to UTC time. The display comprises three parts. The centre features a “Lambert” projection map depicting the continents (enhanced by a sunburst satin-brushed finish) and the oceans (in a velvet finish), along with a translucent lacquered disc bearing the city names. A third sapphire disc laid over the map provides day/night indications by means of subtly graded smoky tints, synchronised with the 24-hour disc. Finally, a translucent lacquered velvet-finished outer ring serves to indicate the hours and minutes.

An ideal travel companion, the Overseas world time model features a 43.5 mm-diameter case housing Caliber 2460 WT. This self-winding movement patented, developed and crafted by Vacheron Constantin operates at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations) per hour and enjoys a 40-hour power reserve. Its 22K gold oscillating weight bears a wind rose – a universal symbol indicating the cardinal points for travellers – adorned with sandblasted, polished and finely grained finishing. All the indications powered by this mechanism are smoothly and easily adjusted via the crown.

Overseas chronograph Calibre 5200

The Overseas Chronograph watch bearing the Hallmark of Geneva is equipped with Calibre 5200, the new self-winding chronograph movement developed and manufactured by Vacheron Constantin. The result of a five-year development process, this 263-component calibre is fitted with a column wheel coordinating the chronograph start, stop and reset functions, whereas a vertical coupling clutch prevents any jerking of the hand when the chronograph starts. The column wheel is adorned with a screw shaped like the Manufacture’s signature Maltese cross emblem. This movement is equipped with a twin barrel enhancing its torque and its reliability while ensuring over 50 hours of power reserve. Protected from magnetic fields by a soft iron ring, it powers the hours, minutes, seconds, chronograph and date indications. These functions are all displayed on a brown dial adorned with sunburst, snailed and velvety finishes. The gold facetted hands and hour-markers hands are coated with a luminescent material ensuring optimal readability.

The Overseas Chronograph comes in a stainless steel 42.5 mm-diameter case. Its screwed-down pushpieces, crown and caseback guarantee water-resistance to 150 metres, while its transparent back reveals a 22K gold oscillating weight adorned with a wind rose. Like the other references from the Overseas collection with blue and silver-toned dials, this new stainless steel model is delivered with three interchangeable bracelet/straps: a steel bracelet with an easy-fit system, along with rubber and leather straps. The two latter are fitted with an equally interchangeable stainless steel folding clasp.

Overseas Calibre 5100

Hours, minutes, seconds, date: this Overseas model displays essential functions with an aura of natural distinction. Nestled in a 41 mm-diameter case in stainless steel, the new Calibre 5100 entirely designed, developed and crafted by Vacheron Constantin is composed of 172 parts. It beats at the rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour and is endowed with a comfortable more than 60- hour power reserve guaranteed by its twin barrels (ensuring the constancy of the torque delivered to the regulating organ). The transparent screwed-down caseback reveals the precious 22K gold oscillating weight adorned with a wind rose. This timepiece certified by the Hallmark of Geneva adopts a sunburst brown dial, swept over by gold luminescent hands and hour-markers. Anti-magnetic thanks to the soft iron ring surrounding its movement and water-resistant to 150 metres, this model lends itself to all occasions with its three interchangeable bracelet/straps: a stainless steel bracelet with an easy-fit sizing system; as well as two straps in rubber and leather respectively. The latter are supplied with an equally adjustable stainless steel folding clasp.

Overseas petit modèle Calibre 5300

The Overseas Small Model is adorned with 84 round-cut diamonds totalling over one carat and daintily set on its six-sided bezel. At the heart of its stainless steel 37 mm-diameter case beats the new Calibre 5300 developed and crafted by Vacheron Constantin. This 128-part self-winding movement powers the hours, minutes and small seconds at 9 o’clock, while ensuring an approximately two-day power reserve. The Overseas small model comes with a brown dial. A pair of gold luminescent hands sweep around the matching hour-markers punctuating this perfectly legible dial face. The back of the watch provides an equally enchanting sight by revealing the 22K gold oscillating weight adorned with a wind rose. Proudly bearing the prestigious Hallmark of

Geneva, the Overseas small model in steel comes with three interchangeable bracelet/straps and an interchangeable folding clasp.

Philippe Pasqua

December 12, 2017

A singular style

Born in 1965, Philippe Pasqua is considered one of the major talents of his generation. Self-taught, he started in a small photography studio in Paris to make a living. But he is a portraitist above all, and in the vein of such modern artists as Bacon, Freud, or Jenny Saville, he chose painting to express the vulnerability and intimacy of the faces and bodies he presents.

The human being is the primary source of inspiration for his paintings.

His canvases are violent, powerful, imposing. His main motivation is not aestheticism but expressivity: “I live painting physically and freely.” The representation of his models is not based in realism but impression. The colors are allegorical and the paintings have an unfinished quality that transmits emotion: “I like the unfinished aspect, yet very constructed at the same time, even if there is a very free gesture in my work, accidents, to break with the academic side of things. The design gives form to the human beings and the color gives them life.”

In most cases, his work tends to be oversized and can reach six meters in height. The amplitude of this artist’s gestures and his subjects command the monumental format of his canvases.

Collet Champagne Prestige Vintages

The oldest French Champagne cooperative, Maison Collet is located in town of Ay and produces some of the best Premier and Grand vintages that reflect the diversity of the Champagne region. Collet Champagne is a high-quality wine destined for the world of gourmet cuisine and leading chefs. Every vintage can be paired with various moments of a great meal, from aperitif to dessert.

The Best Years for Collet Champagnes: 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008

Esprit Couture

Esprit Couture Champagne epitomizes the entire Collet philosophy of a company whose passionate artisans share a singular goal: to create the most authentic of Champagnes. Also, in homage to tradition, the wine is crafted entirely by hand, from the vine to the tasting (harvesting and riddling by hand as well).

Esprit Couture is exclusively composed of the most prestigious Premier and Grand Cru Champagne grapes. Each hand-blown bottle is made in a glass mold custom-made for this champagne that is a blend of Pinot Noir (50%) for structure, Chardonnay (40%) for elegance and finesse, and Pinot Meunier (10%) for the fruitiness. Not overly sweet, with just 7.5 grams of sugar per liter, this champagne with its rather fine bubbles can be served as an aperitif just as easily as with poultry (chicken, pigeon, or turkey) or with fish.

Tasting notes:
Appearance: The foam is fine and regular, the color accents elegant, intense golden highlights.
Nose: Defined by a multitude of floral notes, with a slight fragrance of vanilla undertoneTaste: This champagne reveals a delicious exuberance of fruity flavors such as subtle notes of peach and yellow plum.

The texture is silky, infinitely smooth, and the end result is a rare intensity.

Serve chilled at 8-9°C.

Key points: Collet Esprit Couture Champagne is aged for seven years, carefully sheltered from light in hundred year-old cellars carved into the earth. Even though legislation imposes minimum aging of 15 months, these wines are intentionally aged longer to make sure they are sold at their perfect maturity.

Plus: In 2017, Collet Esprit Couture Champagne won eight international awards.

Jaquet Droz : Only Watch

In honor of the 7th edition of the Only Watch, Jaquet Droz presents an exceptional Grande Seconde Off-Centered model that raises money for the fight against Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Time is generosity. It’s a credo that Jaquet Droz has always stood behind, joining forces with Only Watch, a biennial charity featuring unique watchmaking pieces sold to raise money for research in Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a serious affliction of the muscles and cardiac system. Convinced that treatment is within reach, the brand known by its twin stars proudly shows its commitment through a unique edition of the Grande Seconde Off-Centered.

This reinterpretation of the legendary Grande Seconde watch and its playful figure 8 - the symbol of infinity and completeness that has come to represent Jaquet Droz - features a cuprit background. Discovered in the mid 19th century, this copper-oxide-rich stone kindles celestial reverie of the planet Mars. Its fiery red color embodies all the passion dedicated to both the timepiece and the Only Watch project.

The cut of the mineral dial requires the extreme, expert delicacy for which Jaquet Droz is known. Each inclusion, vein and detail of the dial makes for a singular masterpiece. But the Grande Seconde goes even further: the two counters traditionally aligned on the 12 o’clock / 6 o’clock axis are made off-center, adding an original, dynamic touch to this purest of canvases. The thinness of the circled gold flanges match that of the hands and the majestic direct-drive seconds hand, while the crown is shifted to 4 o’clock for a subtle aesthetic twist.

A feast for the eyes, this Grande Seconde is equipped with an automatic mechanical movement whose balance-spring and pallet horns in silicon - a material resistant to shocks, temperature fluctuations, pressure and magnetic fields - add to the perfect reliability of the watch. Fitted with a power reserve of 68 hours, the Grande Seconde Off-Centered combines the purple of the cuprit with the glimmer of the 43 mm red gold case and the smooth black of the alligator strap. Hand engraved with the mentions “1/1” and “Only Watch 2017 Cuprite”, the Grande Seconde Off-Centered will be released at the end of September to coincide with the Monaco Yacht Show. It will then be a part of the traveling exhibition targeting an international public of committed watch lovers prior to going up for auction in Geneva on Saturday, November 11th.

The Longchamp madeleine

November 27, 2017

The perfect companion for a cultivated woman with eclectic taste

For her brand new line of bags, the Longchamp Madeleine, Sophie Delafontaine wanted to evoke La Madeleine, the emblematic neighborhood in the 9th arrondissement of Paris with its theatres and chic brasseries, and where the first Longchamp boutique opened on Rue Saint-Honoré close to 30 years ago.

The Longchamp Madeleine is a bag that is contemporary as well as deliciously retro, and very feminine, with a sleek, practical shape. It is made with Longchamp’s traditional excellence in wonderful Taurillon leather that is supple and sensual.

This handbag abounds with elegant details: clean-cut edges in saddle-style leather, and a large flap on which the popular Roseau clasp serves as a signature. We also like this bag for its well thought-out interior organization, and a choice of timeless colors, from a chic black to a charming khaki, a voluptuous violet, or a hot red tomato.

In this case, as always, Longchamp likes to tell us wonderful stories… once upon a time there was the Longchamp Madeleine, with a rare elegance and above all the perfect partner for the totally modern woman.

Louis Moinet: 200 years of chronograph

In honour of the memory of its illustrious founder – and on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of its rebirth – Louis Moinet unveils a visionary creation, positioning the chronograph not simply as a complication – but as a central component of the watch.

“It’s probably the most important launch we’ve ever done.” Jean-Marie Schaller, CEO of Louis Moinet, gets straight to the point in presenting Memoris. The timepiece stands at a historic crossroads: the Ateliers’ tenth anniversary, and the bi-centenary of the chronograph invented by Louis Moinet.

The chronograph as the primary function – and time as the complication

The concept began to come into being almost three years ago now, with Louis Moinet starting again from scratch. “We couldn’t draw inspiration from what had gone before; everyone else worked from the premise that the chronograph was an additional complication on top of the time function,” explains Jean-Marie Schaller. “Our starting point was the opposite: sweeping away the past and making the chronograph the heart of our design; the central component to which we then added a time function, rather than the other way round.”

In short, Ateliers Louis Moinet did exactly what the eponymous inventor of the chronograph did in his day; taking a completely different approach to watchmaking rather than attempting merely to improve on an existing model.

As a result, the timepiece lives up to every possible expectation. Each aspect of the chronograph’s action can be admired in its entirety, as soon as the pusher is pressed. The column wheel orchestrates the graceful ballet of the mechanism of steel and gears, passing information to the hands. The chronograph reigns in splendid isolation on the dial, leaving the beholder in no doubt that it is neither a skeleton nor an additional component: the all-new movement has been designed for the chronograph alone, and places it centre stage. Louis Moinet has opted to place the traditional workings of the automatic mechanism on the back of the movement, beneath the plate.

A wholly new approach to the casing

To showcase the chronograph in the style it deserves, Louis Moinet has redeveloped practically every decorative item, with a new case, new hands, a new dial, a new oscillating weight, a new folding clasp, and more.

As a bonus, Louis Moinet has come up with a wholly exclusive use of synthetic gemstones. Usually destined to serve as good pivots and provide proper lubrication of the movement components, gemstones have now found a new purpose elsewhere. Black zircon, in a screwed setting, has been used decoratively – on the case horns.

The final result of all this is Memoris: a 46 mm timepiece, available in pink gold or white gold, in three limited editions of just 60 pieces each. Embodying the essence of true commemoration – all the life of the present, rooted in history – it links Louis Moinet’s heritage with the creative vision of the Ateliers that today honour his memory.

BENTLEY: NEW CONTINENTAL GT

February 7, 2018

New Bentley Continental to view, listen to, admire, and appreciate

With an enhanced version of the 6.0-liter, twin-turbocharged W12 TSI engine, cutting-edge technology, and surprisingly brilliant design and conception, the new Continental GT is unequalled in its category. This luxury car ushers in a new era of power, impressive savoir-faire, and the pinnacle in automotive technology.

With its clean lines, this new edition of the Bentley Continental GT fuses the classic Grand Tourer proportions with a new chassis and a more sculptural architecture. The car is slightly longer and lower, yet just as elegant.

Exterior Design

The muscular, precise lines of the new Continental GT exhibit the influence of the original Bentley R-Type Continental, and exude a sense of refined power. The long wheelbase and short nose make the car seem much more dynamic, even when standing still. Under the hood, this design positions the motor further back to improve weight distribution, and provides a more agile performance.

The new headlights, inspired by the look of cut crystal with the latest LED technology, add to the new face of the Continental. The taillights are now shaped as ellipses, redesigned to reflect the silhouette of the tailpipes below them.

Interior Design

Frederique Constant: Runabout

Frederique Constant launches two new Runabouts, paying homage to the graceful Riva boats of the 1920s where elegance and style ruled the social scene.

A Longstanding Partnership

In 2009, Frederique Constant debuted its collaboration with the Riva Historical Society alongside Piero Mario Gibellini and Carlos Riva whose sole purpose is to preserve the remaining Riva boats worldwide, and helping their owners safeguard their prized possessions in the best way possible. With the launching of these two new watches, Frederique Constant honors their commitment to preserving the Riva name and what it stands for.

From Sea to Land

In that same year, Frederique Constant launched its first Runabout timepiece named after the legendary Runabout yachts of the 1920s. Considered the European elite of Runabouts, the Riva Runabouts were originally small, fast and powerful and could welcome four to eight people; they were perfect for pleasure activities such as fishing, water sports or just cruising. Riva Runabouts are the ideal muse to draw inspiration from and design an elegant and stylish, Italian-inspired watch.

Refined Elegance

Both new versions of the Frederique Constant Runabout embody a classic, sophisticated watch featuring hours, minutes, seconds, date and a 24h GMT with a guilloché-decorated dial and applied luminous indexes. The whole is completed by a 44mm polished stainless steel 3-parts case, a see-through case back, which displays the inner workings of the FC-350 movement featuring an in-house GMT module. The first option features a silver-colored dial with a blue GMT hand with a matching navy blue leather strap. While the second option offers a dark grey dial contrasting with a white GMT hand with a light brown leather strap. Both versions are a Limited Edition of 2’888 pieces each, and are delivered in a luxurious wooden gift box including a detailed-wooden Runabout boat miniature.

The partnership between Frederique Constant and the Riva Historical Society carries on with these two new additions to the Runabout Collection, making the 1920s elegance and style live on through them.

Phenomen: Axiom

March 19, 2018

A New Brand Born Of Unified Ideas

The heart of the matter for Alexandre Meyer, CEO and co-founder of Phenomen, is the intersection of design and technique, of styles and materials, of dreams and reality. “I come from the world of automobiles where the body design counts as much as the engine. I wanted to transpose this coherent vision and unification to the world of watchmaking, not without adding a personal touch, innovative, audacious, and based on aspects of French culture,” notes Meyer.

Next came the meeting of ingenuity and creation. When the paths of Alexandre Meyer and Sylvain Nourisson crossed, the result was the formation of a team determined to explore new opportunities. The former is an engineer and designer, the latter a watchmaker and creator. Maxime Colson, who designs watch prototypes, quickly joined the founding duo.

From the first sketch to the final assembly, every step in creating a watch is made in Besanc, France. The fabrication of the watch movement is entrusted to independent specialists, with the “Swiss Made” label, in the same way as Atokalpa, La Joux Perret, or Mimotec.

Axiom

Phenomen, the first creation for the Axiom brand, is subtle yet strong, with two characteristics essential to a watch: showcasing the movement and an original design.

With its rare complexity, the case allows the movement to be angled, with an amphitheatre layer, allowing for legible time readout. This architecture inspires special visual emotion with the spectacular arrangement of the emblematic elements of the movement such as the balance wheel or the escape wheel.

Evoking an aerodynamic silhouette, the trapezoid lines of the bezel and its truncated vertical termination recall the backs of certain iconic cars such as the Ferrari 365 GTB 4 Panther Shooting or the unmistakable lines of the Mustang Fastback.

The movement of a marine chronometer is not built flay, but on several levels. The PH-010 movement is the same, with a first layer housing the two barrels as well as the finishing gear train and the winding system. The two retrograde displays are located on a second level. And finally, a third level contains the escape wheel. Seen in profile, the movement has the shape of a semi-pyramid.

In addition, the PH-010 movement comprises multiple original technical solutions, in tribute to golden age of horology. From the shape of the bridges to the utilization of pillars to support the third level, each aspect of this watch illustrates the extreme care put into every detail, and is a testament to the love of beautiful work.

Axiom stands out for its original and direct time readout, with a display of 100 degrees. This allows the human eye to immediately see the time without having to scan the 360 degrees of a traditional timepiece.

Key points: Phenomen, an independent luxury French watchmaker, combines strong horological design with a precision movement, both symbols of their bold and original “French Touch.”

Le plus: Axiom represents the ultimate French watch for those who are passionate about automobiles. This watch recalls the dials of a sports car, and has earned its place in the long tradition of driver’s watches, or timepieces created for racecar drivers. The ultimate goal: to put the time on the wrist of a driver so they don’t have to take their eyes off the road.

Characteristics: Double retrograde hour and minute readout on raised amphitheatre setting with integrated 3D hands; Independent correction for hour and minutes; Grade 5 titanium case; Upper and lower sapphire crystal with anti-reflection treatment; Two crowns; Waterproof to 30 meters; Twin-barrel mechanical movement with manual rewinding; Exclusive Phenomen variable inertia balance wheel; 100 hours of reserve power; Alligator strap; Exclusive grade 5 Titanium folding buckle.

Secret d'Atelier

December 5, 2017

The result is dramatic, with a desire to touch the floor.

A new luxury division of the Compagnie Française du Parquet (CFP), Secret d’Atelier is the first French brand to create luxurious parquet floors. The brand combines its historic sense of excellence with today’s innovative technologies to create its custom products.

Three Collections

Secret d’Atelier offers three prestigious, high-quality collections:

For its first collection, launched in 2016, Secret d’Atelier dives into a universe rich in the colors of one of the world’s most celebrated historic architects, Le Corbusier, and his fascinating design guide “Architectural Polychromy.”

Secret d’Atelier presented a second, equally prestigious collection: Illusion. An illusion, as if there were an object placed on the floor. There are no limits to Secret d’Atelier’s ability to create the impression of a 3D object. This effect in relief, if successful, reveals the very meticulous work of a legendary photographer. The challenge is to take a photo of a real object and reproduce it on the wood before the parquet floor is installed. As a result, anything is possible: works of art, motifs, logos, trompe-l'œil... this new form of interior architectural expression allows for the creation of interesting compositions using the best natural materials on the market.

The third Secret d’Atelier collection has just been inaugurated: Charred Wood, as inspired by an ancient Japanese technique.

An ambitious new project is also underway with French street artist Jules L'Atlas.

Key points: The first French brand to create luxury parquet floors, Secret d’Atelier is open to evaluating and working on all original and innovative projects by professionals, as well as individuals who want to cover their floors with extremely high-quality products.

Plus: Secret d’Atelier participated in the “Holiday House” project in London, working with French architect Philippe Maidemberg and in partnership with Roche Bobois. To support this initiative in the fight against cancer, Secret d’Atelier donated parquet from its first collection, Le Corbusier.

ART

Maryam Eisler

Maryam Eisler is a London-based photographer, editor, and art patron. Born in Iran, she was raised in international schools first in Paris followed by the US. She holds a BA from Wellesley College and an MBA from Columbia University. She has held editorial roles on several art publications such as: Sanctuary: Britain’s Artists and their studios; Art Studio America: Contemporary Artist Spaces; London Burning: Portraits From a Creative City all of which are co-published by TransGlobe Publishing and Thames and Hudson. She is currently holding her first solo exhibition in St Barth at Space SBH Gallery, following her debut show in London at the Tristan Hoare Gallery.

We were very lucky to meet with Eisler and ask her about her work and sources of inspiration.

Tell us the story and your artistic approach behind the series “Searching for Eve in the American West” which you are currently exhibiting.

“I’ve always been attracted to Native American land and spirituality. While working on the book Art Studio America: Contemporary Artist Spaces, I followed in the footsteps of Georgia O’Keeffe experiencing her journey in the New Mexico landscape and visited her home and studio near Abiquiu: I was awed by this hostile and baron nature and the light! What a light! I felt the timelessness of the place, echoing O’Keeffe’s art and words: ‘such a beautiful untouched lonely feeling place, such a fine part of what I call “the faraway”... It is a place I have painted before... even now I must do it again...’ I couldn’t resist the urge to go back by myself, as an artist, only this time with my camera, in order to express my feelings. This time, it was a journey of self-discovery, a spiritual journey of some sort. I spent days hiking in the arid and inhospitable New Mexico desert and canyons. Once again, I was taken by the power of nature and the special light that bathed the land. While shooting Maralah and Wakanda, my models, in this harsh environment I felt what the origin of the world could have looked and felt like! I saw Eve somewhere between the majestic heavens and Mother Earth, standing atop the rocky lines, as sensual and powerful as the monumental nature that had surrounded her. She became my muse, my inspiration, at one with nature and the land.”

Femininity is at the heart of your work. Would you say you’re a feminist?

“If you want to call me a feminist, you can. I celebrate Woman with a capital W in my work, and great female figures are timeless sources of inspiration to me. Last summer, while traveling in the South of France, I visited the “Carrières de Lumière” in Les Baux-de Provence where Jean Cocteau shot Testament of Orpheus in 1960. Wondrous colours, shapes and shades – a perfect setting for seeking mythic antecedents, and I shot my own vision of the nymph. The result of this journey is my second series: “Eurydice in Provence,” an ode to beauty and to the Divine Feminine.”

You were born in Iran, you studied in France and in the US. Which culture has influenced you the most?

“I was lucky to be born in a family open to the world and raised in international milieux. As such, I navigate between the three cultures very easily and feel equally nourished by each one."

Maryam Eisler is surely an inspiring woman... I’m not alone in thinking this as she was voted as one of the "100 Most Powerful Women in Art" by Artnet in 2014.

Palmer johnson: bugatti niniette 66

The makers of the world’s most powerful, fastest, most exclusive and luxurious production super sports car, Bugatti, and the world’s most innovative motor yacht builder, Palmer Johnson, announce the release of the Bugatti Niniette 66. This will be the first in a new series of yachts, starting from 50ft, up to 80ft.

The iconic companies have combined their pedigree in design, technology and performance into a fearless vision of the future of sport yachts. Inspired by the amazing Bugatti Chiron, the outcome of this powerful alchemy between Palmer Johnson and Bugatti is the limited edition Bugatti Niniette 66. The curving line that defines the sides of the Chiron is carried over to the 20-meter-long vessel that also inheritates the flagship blue of the car.

Makers of the fastest car in the world today, Bugatti was once a boat builder too. Commissioned to create a one-of-a kind speedboat in 1930 by Prince Carlo Maurizio Ruspoldi, founder Ettore Bugatti named this low on the water beauty the Niniette, surname of his youngest daughter Lidia.

The challenge was to create an innovative sport yacht based on the proprietary strengths of the two companies, while echoing the unmistakable design DNA of Bugatti.

A common vision of the future has made this dream a reality. Palmer Johnson’s history of building the world’s most groundbreaking yachts has been combined with Bugatti’s signature engineering traits such as the accentuated centre line, perfect symmetry and a sweeping signature curve.

The purity of design and perfect proportions of the Niniette create and leave an impression of magical beauty.

Sabrina Monte-Carlo: Galactica Super Nova

March 16, 2018

Designer Of More Than 90 Yachts

Expert interior and exterior designers for the past 20 years, Sabrina Monte-Carlo provides a large selection of furniture, lighting, fabric, fine linens for the home, tableware, and decorative objects from the world’s leading brands. Sabrina Monteleone-Oeino, principal designer at Sabrina Monte-Carlo, and her staff have completed numerous projects from conception to completion: homes, chalets, yachts, and private jets.

Sabrina Monte-Carlo is especially renowned for their knowledge and expertise in the world of yachting. Every project includes close collaboration with the shipyard, the naval architects, and the best-known designers.

Galactica Super Nova

In collaboration with the leading Dutch shipyard, Heesen Yachts, and renowned naval architect Espen Oeino, Sabrina Monte-Carlo provided the luxurious interior and exterior furniture for the 70-meter Galactica Super Nova mega motor yacht. With a contemporary allure, combining teak and gray lacquer, the outdoor furniture is adorned with an impressive quantity of personalized cushions.

The brushed, highly polished stainless steel of the central staircase on the yacht has curved stairs protected by fine steel strips that appear to spin out of the central support post, hug the treads and then continue out to wrap the walls of the curved stair surround. The effect is striking, original, organic and reminiscent of a seashell.

Galactica Super Nova is aesthetically unified on all of the decks, interior and exterior: the yacht was conceived with a “beach-like” style that is modern, light, and pleasant. The look of every space is consistent, and the details are identical, from the captain’s bridge to the main deck and the beach club. There is diversity in the materials used and the ceiling styles that defines each space.

Over the period of a year, the team worked on selecting the tableware, stemmed glasses, and silverware in a refined, elegant style from some of the most prestigious European manufacturers. Works of art complete the sophistication of the interiors created by the renowned Dutch company, Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design. The warm interiors feature three different kinds of wood: sycamore, two types of wenge, and teak. The woodworking and cabinetry has a contemporary, smooth style that allows the richness and grain of the wood to be seen.

In terms of consistent design, all of the artwork aboard Galactica Super Nova is framed in the same wood and the same style as the wood used in each cabin, and adds to the continuity of the style and ambiance found throughout the yacht. Sabrina Monte-Carlo also worked hard on researching high-quality materials, innovative design, and personalization of the bed and bath linens, accessories, and amenities.

Key points: Galactica Super Nova evokes the motto of the design firm: Perfection Lies In The Details.

Plus: Decorative objects in various shades of blue—the signature color of Sabrina Monte-Carlo—brighten the subtle gray color scheme on the yacht.

oOumm

November 30, 2017

Light & Fragrance

oOumm is a French brand of interior perfume with a touch of olfactory elegance, blending exceptional fragrances with beautifully designed accents for the home.

Going beyond luxury, oOumm’s exclusivity comes in a patented system for its wax candles: a special refill that can be used in a series of design objects, adding light to fragrance. By associating art and aroma, Ooumm has revolutionized the use of interior perfume for a contemporary lifestyle.

An alliance of art and design experts

With oOumm, Maria Bosoni took a gamble by adding her vision to a brand of interior fragrances and objects that venture further than any other brand has gone so far. A sense of luxury is created by a fundamental contemporary approach, strict criteria in terms of the quality of the raw materials, the quality of workmanship, and of course the artistic direction.

Savvy about design and interested in the art of perfume, Jérôme Aumon has been involved with the development of the brand since the project was born, accompanying Maria Bosoni in the artistic direction and development of every product.

Barnabé Fillion, trained as a botanist, has created four custom perfumes with refined scents, mixing innovation and tradition by using essences that are rare and very high quality.

Designer Dan Yeffet developed the exclusive system of refills (SoOumm) and designed an exclusive series of candle holders.

Characteristics:

• A series of uniquely designed diffusers and candle holders in marble, brass, glass, and wood;

• SoOumm refills: elegant polished brass capsules for use in specifically designed diffusers

Key points: oOumm has reinvented the art of perfume by uniting excellent artists and artisans.

De bethune: Kind of Blue

The DB28 adopts a case in polished and blued titanium held by floating lugs for maximum comfort. Their springs indeed follow the shape of the wrist and its movements.

Its mechanical calibre with hand winding is equipped with a high frequency, ultra fast tourbillon, signed De Bethune. The lightest in the world with its minuscule 0.20 grammes for 63 parts, it beats at one-tenth of a second and makes a complete rotation in 30 seconds for superior chronometry. Its silicon balance wheel, just as its escape wheel, is encircled with a white gold ring. Its flat terminal curve, placed on the same level as the balance-spring, compensates for off-centering and facilitates its fastening. A self- regulating twin barrel developed in-house ensures constant torque in the movement. Entirely visible, the movement presents a curved delta motion work bridge in polished and blued titanium decorated with applied microsphere stars in white gold.

Decorated by hand, the parts present various types of high watchmaking finishes, with rose-work grinding on the barrel ratchets and on the back, a plate with “De Bethune” concentric graining. The hours are marked by arrow pointers in pink gold, and as an added touch of luxury, indicated by skeleton hands also fashioned in pink gold.

At once supreme and delicate, the Kind of Blue DB28T emits a singular radiance from the very material from which it is made. It truly advocates in favour of a colour that casts a magical spell.

CHANEL: Premiere Tourbillon Volant

January 19, 2018

The dial of the Tourbillon Volant with a stylized camellia

To mark the 25th anniversary of its first horology collection, CHANEL has created a new timepiece that allows women to enter the world of complicated watch mechanisms. Inspired by the geometric octagonal shape of the CHANEL N°5 bottle and of the Place Vendôme, Chanel has created a feminine incursion into the complexity of horology that is as mysterious as it is beautiful and poetic.

The diamond-covered case of this beautiful Première watch subtly marries the art and perfection of luxury horology with the couture spirit of the house of CHANEL.

The development of this exceptional watch is the fruit of a close collaboration between CHANEL and the artisans, engineers, and master Swiss watchmakers at Renaud & Papi (APRP SA)—the advanced research and development arm of Audemars Piguet—making a first for both of these companies.

Characteristics: Case in 18K white gold with set with 47 baguette-cut rubies (~3,83 carats), bezel in 18K white gold set with 42 baguette-cut rubies (~2,96 carats) and 52 brilliant-cut diamonds (~1,48 carat), dial of high-tech black ceramic, crown in 18K white gold carats set with 16 baguette cut rubies (~0,32 carat) and 11 brilliant-cut diamonds (~0,16 carat), black alligator strap and double folding clasp in 18K white gold set with 30 brilliant-cut diamonds (~0,33 carat), self-winding mechanical watch, waterproof to 30 meters.

Key points: The dial of the Tourbillon Volant is decorated with a stylized camellia, Mademoiselle Chanel’s favorite flower. This subtly hides the tourbillion at the heart of the Première watch, which is supported by a bridge from the movement and not on the dial side.

Plus: A combination of beauty and purity, power and femininity, the Tourbillon Volant with its stylized camellia is dressed in yellow, beige, or white gold with shimmering diamonds. Choice of bezel set sapphires, pink sapphires, rubies, or diamonds.

Tudor: born to dare

One of the most admired, gifted and successful football players of all time, a philanthropist, an entrepreneur and a global style icon, David Beckham’s life journey embodies the daring values that made Tudor what it is today.

Tudor is Born to Dare

In 2017, Tudor launched a new campaign with the “Born To Dare” signature. It reflects both the history of the brand and what it stands for today. Daring individuals have long chosen Tudor while achieving the extraordinary on land, ice, in the air and underwater. It also refers to the vision of Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Tudor, who manufactured Tudor watches to withstand the most extreme conditions, watches made for the most daring lifestyle indeed. It finally tells of the singular approach Tudor is known for today, having pioneered now major trends within the watchmaking industry.

The Tudor “Born To Dare” spirit is expressed in a campaign manifesto (below and extended version in annex) and supported globally by ambassadors whose life achievements directly result from a daring approach to life. David Beckham is one of them and Tudor is proud to welcome him to its family.

Devoted to the classic

David Beckham is a multi-faceted man with a taste for finer things. “Especially as an Englishman I think you really appreciate a nice suit and a nice watch. They go very well together” he says. A long-time wristwatch lover, he came to know Tudor through its sibling brand, Rolex, of which he owns several timepieces. “I was attracted to Tudor by the attention to detail I could see in their watches. I then learned about the history of the brand. One of adventure, pioneer diving and daring expeditions. I was instantly hooked”.

David Beckham wears the Black Bay S&G, a vintage-inspired steel and gold diver’s watch as well as

the Black Bay Chrono, a COSC-certified chronograph with column-wheel manufacture calibre drawing upon Tudor's diving and motorsports heritage.

Born for a purpose

As a child, David Beckham had a dream. Whenever asked about what he would want to be later in life he invariably answered “a football player”. This early drive led him to become one of the most acclaimed, loved and successful players in the history of the game. With three major clubs and 115 selections in the English football team, 59 as captain, he left his mark: 6 England Championship titles, 2 Major League Soccer cups, one time Champion of Spain and one time UEFA Champion.

He might not have been the best scorer, nor the fastest player, but he had a unique style, both precise and spectacular. One of perfect passes, extraordinary kicks and supreme accuracy that proved decisive on the field. “Bend it like Beckham” says it all about his brand of game. By daring to go all the way, always, David Beckham made his childhood dream a reality.

Aston Martin: The new Vantage

April 4, 2018

The Successor To A True Sports Car Dynasty

“A true sports car with a sharper look and a keener dynamic edge, the new Vantage is the Aston Martin that pure driving-machine enthusiasts have been waiting for,” declares Dr Andy Palmer, president and CEO of Aston Martin.

With the complete integration of the engine, transmssion, electronic rear differential (E-Diff), dynamic torque vectoring, dynamic stability control, adaptive damping and the electric power-steering systems, each mode optimizes every area of the car as one.

With each step the Vantage gains in agility and responsiveness, its character becoming progressively sharper, more vocal and more exciting. This is the essence of the Vantage driving experience - a car that’s never less than connected and engaging with the breadth of capability to revel in challenging roads and bare its teeth on the track.

Exterior Design

A spectacular new Aston Martin sports car demands a bold and distinctive design language. Pure, sculptural forms create an athletic, predatory stance, while the minimal front and rear overhangs, muscular flanks and broad haunches express the agility and dynamism inherent within the car. New head and tail lights form dramatic new signatures giving the Vantage unmistakable road presence and contribute to a strong and individual identity within the growing Aston Martin model range.

Interior Design

The incredible design story continues inside the Vantage, with a dynamic and focused sports car cockpit that rejects long, fluid curves in favour of sharp, focused lines denoting the more aggressive nature of the car. A high-waist interior theme and lower driving position creates a more immersive driving experience, and contributes to significant gains in occupant space and significant improvement in headroom compared with the outgoing Vantage. A combination of rotary and toggle style controls have been used for their tactile and intuitive functionality. Likewise, the PRND transmission buttons have been moved into a triangular formation so as to cluster major controls into clearly defined zones. The interior also offers generous stowage space, with useable room behind the seats and generous double-tier storage areas.

Price: 155 294 €

Key points: With a bold new look, as well as a high-effiiency performance,  the brand new Vantage has an alloy 4-liter V8 twin-turbo engine that generates 503 horsepower and 505 lb/feet of torque; 8-speed automatic transmission.

Plus: For the first time on an Aston Martin, the new Vantage has an electronic rear differential (E-Diff) (E-Diff). This differential not only makes the car more comfortable but also more composed in terms of straight-line stability and on curves.

Harry Winston: Premier Moon

Harry Winston introduces the Premier Moon Phase 36mm – an enchanting timepiece that marries the beauty of mother-of-pearl with the sophistication of a moon phase complication. Honoring the Moon Phases The Premier Moon Phase 36mm captures the serene beauty of the celestial sky, with a mesmerizing moon that appears to travel across the horizon, before finding its way behind a white mother-of-pearl design, signifying the end of the lunar cycle. The lunar cycle, hours, minutes and date display are expertly powered by the HW5201 quartz movement, exclusive to Harry Winston. The migration of the moon is visible through a crescent-shaped opening, while the hour and minutes are indicated by elegant, beveled hands. At 6 o’clock, an open circle, adorned with a yellow gold border, reveals the date. Mother-of-Pearl, Contrasting Colors, and Intricate Design Motifs The impressive face of the Premier Moon Phase 36mm uses different artistic techniques and materials to achieve a three-dimensional aesthetic, including carefully selected mother-of-pearl, contrasting colors, and expertly placed design accents. In order to create a unique and graceful dial, two shades of mother-of-pearl were used. The first, a pure white, alludes to daylight, while the second, a pearl blue, recalls the deep blue of the evening sky. The contrasting colors are meant to guide the eye to the heart of the timepiece, where the moon phase is brilliantly displayed. Gold cabochons minute markers, bring the dial to life, while the iconic hallmark for the brand – the emerald-shaped logo – stands watch at 12 o’clock. 18 brilliant-cut diamonds rest at 6 o'clock, while 12 brilliant-cut diamonds line the perimeter, serving as hour markers. Together with those on the bezel, arches and buckle, the timepiece offers 2.58 carats of the world’s most magnificent diamonds, which are perfectly complemented by the 36mm 18K rose gold case and the iridescent accents on the white alligator strap.

HERMèS

The Fouets et Badines Square

The popular silk square scarf is emblematic of the French fashion house Hermès.

Virginie Jamin, an expert in creating skillfully arranged compositions, frequently draws her inspiration from the collection of Émile Hermès. On each of her visits, the designer finds intriguing objects that are transformed into motifs for her next square scarf design.

This time she fixed her eye on an album noted as “colportage” dating from the start of the 19th century, proposing riding crops, canes, and other pieces from the collection. Her imagination completed this ensemble, in which she includes braided leather, sculpted wood, and carved ivory. A supple network of intertwined leather straps contrasts with the strict diagonal array of whip handles, many embellished with dogs’ or horses’ heads.

Key points: A signature Hermès design, the silk square is a timeless, indispensable fashion accessory.

Plus: This square exists en several colors: red, blue, or gold.

Characteristics: 100% silk twill scarf, hand rolled (90 x 90 cm), designed by Virginie Jamin

Graff: The eternal twins

November 9, 2017

A magnificent pair of 50,23 carat d flawless emerald cut diamonds

Over the course of the last five decades Graff has passionately pursued the pinnacle of excellence in sourcing, cutting, polishing and setting the most fabulous jewels in the world.

With unwavering dedication to the transformation of a rare diamond from its rough state, into a polished masterpiece, Graff has dominated the list of exceptional stones cut and polished this century.

Two identical stones of beautiful proportions and quality have joined Graff’s roll call of exceptional diamonds.

The opportunity to cut two stones of such magnitude from the same rough is not only exceptionally rare, but demonstrates the exemplary cutting and polishing expertise of the House.

On the discovery of a stunning 269 carat rough diamond from the Lucara Karowe mine in Botswana, Graff’s elite team of gemmologists were tasked with carrying out the risky process of unleashing its true potential.

Its natural internal flaws and nuances were mapped precisely into a specialised computer system to create an exact digital replica of the rough, which was then studied for many hours to determine the individual character of the stone and how best to transform it into a polished masterpiece.

With careful planning, Graff’s senior cutters lasered the rough, separating and defining the emerald cuts which were then polished by hand by the House’s highly skilled team. Two rectangular emerald cuts emerged from the inner depths of the rough; identical in weight and perfect in proportion.

An emerald cut is faceted differently to a round brilliant cut, with long clean lines; this means that the visibility of flaws is increased so the highest clarity is required. The cut also showcases a masterly play of light between the facets of the stone, perfected by Graff’s expert team.

To cut and polish two stones to the exact same size and weight is incredibly challenging and a decision made from the beginning of the cutting and polishing process. Furthermore, to produce two D Flawless emerald cut diamonds from the same rough, and exceeding 50 carats each, is extremely rare and a true testament to Graff’s knowledge, skill and commitment to pushing the boundaries of diamond expertise.

The Eternal Twins have been set in a pair of earrings incorporating a total of 132.53 carats of exceptional diamonds. Graff’s master craftsmen and design team have combined true artistry with breath-taking fire and scintillation in the creation of these beautiful jewels.

Graff takes great pride and responsibility in knowing that these gems of everlasting beauty will pass from generation to generation, taking their place in history for eternity.

MB&F: Horological Machine N° 7 Aquapod

February 20, 2018

Take a deep breath…

MB&F, the world’s leading conceptual horology laboratory, is celebrating more than 10 years of intensive creativity with 15 extraordinary calibers that animate their Horological Machines and Legacy Machines that are applauded in the press, and are the basis of the international renown of MB&F.

After having pushed the limits of horological mechanics with futuristic designs to be propelled into space (HM2, HM3, HM6), in the sky (HM4), on roads and racetracks (HM5, HMX, HM8), MB&F plunges into the deep with its aquatic Horological Machine N° 7, alias HM7 Aquapod.

The HM7 Aquapod, the watch inspired by a jellyfish

Maximilian Büsser, the founder of MB&F, had the idea to create an aquatic watch as a souvenir of a family vacation by the sea, and an encounter with a jellyfish in particular. More than just anecdotal, this event sowed the seeds for a three-dimensional watch with a tentacle-shaped winding rotor.

The organic design of the HM7 Aquapod is counterbalanced by the mechanism lodged in the interior: a central tourbillion dominates the vertical, concentric construction of the movement and the hours and minutes float around, like waves on the ocean.

The HM7 Aquapod was born in the shape of a horological jellyfish, with its carefully designed biomorphic motor. Jellyfish have radial symmetry, as does the Aquapod. So while a jellyfish eats food grasped by its tentacles, the HM7 gets its energy from the automatic tentacle-shaped winding rotor.

Key points: While the HM7 Aquapod is as modern as possible, the concept of the three-dimensional spherical construction is age-old. Its origins lie in the “onion” pocket watches popular in the 18th century. While most of the horology movements were developed horizontally, incredibly detailed research allowed the motor of the HM7 to be higher than it is wide, with elements mounted vertically.

Plus: Like many jellyfish, the HM7 glows at night. The numbers for the hours and minutes are illuminated, and there is illumination around the movement... The light reveals the flying tourbillion, as well as the tentacles of the winding rotor.

The HM7 Aquapod is a limited edition of 33 watches in grade-5 titanium with a blue bezel, and a second edition of 66 in 5N+rose gold with a black bezel. Both have luminescent blue details.

Characteristics: The architecture of the movement comprises three-dimensional verticality with automatic rewinding conceived and developed internally MB&F; 60-second central flying tourbillion; 72-hour reserve power; 35 rubies; Spherical case construction; First editions in grade-5 titanium or 5N+ 18K rose gold; waterproof to 50 meters; Sapphire crystal treated with antireflective coating; High-quality aero-nautical rubber strap.

ART

L'atlas

December 15, 2017

A Major Street Art Figure

L’Atlas started as a graffiti artist in the 1990s. Fascinated by the art of symbols and writing, he set out to study Arabic calligraphy in Morocco, Egypt, and Syria. He was especially interested in “koufi,” the geometric writing that he used to transpose the codes in the Latin alphabet, creating his own style of typography.

After experimenting with photography, painting, and video, L’Atlas developed a pictorial universe in which every letter is considered as a form, and each form as a letter. Little by little, even the city appeared to him to be full of signs that he collected the almost abstract shapes with a system of imprints.

Eastern thought, according to which duality is the source of being complementary, occupies a preponderant place in his life and in his art. That is the source of his artistic explorations, where one observes a recurring dichotomy between black and white in the major part of his compositions.

His work with typefaces and calligraphy led him to other forms of art in the streets. He became, with urban artist Zevs, a leading figure in the post-graffiti movement and conceived a series of urban interventions. L’Atlas created the outline of urban compasses on one of the facades of the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, with one of his frequent tools, extremely large and adhesive gaffer tape.

Over time, parallel to his presence in the streets, his artistic practice evolved toward the conception of works that are more timeless, presented in exhibition spaces adapted to his work. Yet without losing the controversial and subversive spirit that characterizes the artist.

HUBLOT: DRESSES UP WITH BERLUTI

The Classic Fusion is the marriage of Berluti’s iconic luxurious Venezia leather and the innovative watch-making expertise of Hublot. This fusion of excellence defines a limited-edition timepiece, giving it a bold, stylish character.

“Style or nothing. After using denim and lace, we wanted to explore different materials for dials and straps. Leather straps are a classic option for watches, but we wanted to go beyond the traditional approach and work with the absolute most iconic leather there is. Our collaboration with Berluti was a natural choice. One of the major difficulties was the dial. It is rather complicated to use a fabric such as leather in a waterproof case. In addition, it was a challenge to perfectly match the subtleties of the strap and the dial,” points out Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO Hublot

Hublot and Berluti are contemporary alchemists. Both of these respected brands wanted to create a timepiece that has a soul and a distinctive personality. To celebrate the 120th anniversary of the Parisian shoe company in 2105, a series of straps and dials was created for the Classic Fusion model. This ingenious combination of the watch and matching shoes is a true symbol of elegance, embodying the spirit of a classic gentleman.

“After dressing the Berluti man from head to toe, our collaboration with Hublot inspired the creation of a watch that is the perfect final touch to the masculine wardrobe. Our two companies share the same level of expertise as well as a passion for excellence,” notes Antoine Arnault, CEO of Berluti

Berluti’s Venezia leather, developed by Olga Berluti, is tanned using an exclusive mineral process. This natural material is what Hublot has adopted for its dials, requiring a complex, delicate process to neutralize the organic elements of the leather, and make each dial unique. This limited edition is available in two models: their straps and dials reflect the outstanding savoir-faire of Berluti. This collaboration between Hublot and Berluti, the creator of the dial and strap, represents a new definition of excellence and a beautiful, recognizable style.

MESSIKA: MY TWIN

February 26, 2018

Opposites Attract

In 2016, Valérie Messika presented a new interpretation of a grand classic in jewelry design, Toi et Moi (You and Me). The leading collection of the French diamond house, Messika, the Toi et Moi My Twin collection provides a new way to seal one’s love, through the unexpected juxtaposition of different size diamonds. Between opposition and balance, the ring wraps around the finger, where the two the stones mingle and mix without ever touching. These modern, elegant settings beautifully reflect light through their movement.

Key points: Messika celebrates the perfect union of pear-cut, emerald-cut, and oval-cut diamonds in the My Twin collection.

Plus: To wear for all occasions, these rings can be combined for a dramatic look that is quite refined.

The My Twin Ring In Its Duo Version

This collection reinterprets the classic Toi & Moi in an architectural composition where the emerald and the pear are attracted to each other. Invisible when worn, the setting allows the purity of the diamonds to really shine.

Blancpain: The new Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe

December 15, 2017

Bathyscaphe, A New Member To The Family

With a vintage feel, the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe, presented for the first time in 2013, expands its collection with a timepiece in a smaller 38mm case. Both the dial and bezel are in Abyss Blue, a symbolic color for Blancpain as it recalls the depths of the sea.

History Of A Legend

Blancpain’s Bathyscaphe diver watches were first seen in the 1950s with models for men, and later for women. In 2013, for the 60th anniversary of the Fifty Fathoms, the Bathyscaphe model took on a new look, inspired by the first versions. The contours were as stylish as their predecessors and the wide, rectangular hands recall classic watches.

Silicon Balance Spring

An innovation for the watch-making industry over the past few decades, silicon has several advantages: hardness as well as lightness, as well as more shock resistant, and does not respond to magnetic fields. Thanks to these properties, the spring benefits from an almost perfect geometry that by consequence improves the isochronism of the movement and therefore the precision of the watch.

Characteristics: Three hands in a 38mm case, stainless steel bezel with blue ceramic insert, with numerals and indices in Liquidmetal®, 100-hour power reserve, caliber 1150, waterproof 3 bars or up to 300 meters, silicon balance spring, sapphire back that allows you to see the solid gold rotor recovered with NAC (a platinum alloy).

Key points: The Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe is powered by Caliber 1150, which is distinguished by its robustness and chronometer characteristics.

Plus: Like all diving watches worthy of their name, each model is equipped with a unidirectional bezel that rotates counter-clockwise by small notches. True to the original version of the Bathyscaphe, the luminescent dot on the bezel serves as an index for divers, enabling accurate alignment with the minutes hand and thereby defining the start of a given dive time.

fred collection 8°0

FRED has added a new chapter to its creative history with the 8°0 collection. This new line of bracelets is infused with a message that resonates as strongly as a mantra: create and define your own vision of luck.

Because some things just seem to happen naturally, FRED gave the 8°0 bracelets a graphic look that is aesthetically pleasing and uncluttered: a knot with long curves that evoke a lucky charm, in yellow, pink, or white gold, partially or entirely covered with diamonds.

With no specific start or finish, the curves on the buckle can be interpreted differently by the imagination of each wearer: sinuous in the shape of an infinity symbol, or perhaps the symbol of an eternal love, or of good fortune as 8 is considered a lucky number in certain cultures... The interpretation is intentionally left open, as if the bracelet were a talisman given special virtues, forces, or images that have a personal meaning. Easily worn by men and women, the 8°0 bracelet stands out for its universal style, which looks as pretty on a feminine arm as it does powerful on a virile wrist.

The buckle is attached to a leather strap in black, brown, or navy blue. The leather has a softness that will gain a patina over time, retaining the personal touch of the wearer.

8°0: these two numbers with their pure, simple shapes, were not picked at random but represent 8 decades of design at FRED, as the company celebrates its 80 years. And the elegance of this new line is inspired by the philosophy of founder Fred Samuel, for whom jewels should be the ultimate symbol of liberty and free expression. Now it’s your turn to define your vision of luck by wearing this trendy bracelet as a good luck charm…

Sensual and feminine by design, beautiful lingerie adapts to the seasons and in keeping with your mood, whether it be romantic, sophisticated, or casual. The signature of elegant fashion, these bodysuits are created in the most refined fabrics, from satin and tulle to lace by Leavers and Jacquard.

Among all the possible combinations, one of the most outstanding is the couture touch of the Bisoux bodysuit—with its patterned lace and satin trimming, plus the look of denim. Can be worn by day or by night.

For a romantic rendezvous or a cocktail party, go for the fabulous look of Palazzo pants paired with the Plume bodysuit, whose Leavers lace is inspired by bird feathers. Add a rock accent with the Perfecto jacket in leather.

The Ultrachic bodysuit is sumptuous in silk crepe adorned with bands of lace on the length of its sleeves, at the wrists, neck, and around the thighs. It is worn bloused at the waist with the low-cut back closed by a single button, or left open for a dressier evening allure.

Richard Mille: RM 033

December 18, 2017

RM 033 Extra-Flat Automatic Watch

With an extra-flat movement, the goal of this watch is to be especially elegant and subtle. The entire virtuosity of a master watchmaker resides in the capacity to accomplish something that is almost invisible. As a result, all of the constraints of creation are made even more difficult due to the small size.

One of the characteristics of the extra-flat automatic RM 033 resides in the off-center disposition of the micro-rotor on the interior of the automatic caliber RMXP1. This construction gains several precious millimeters in the overall height of the watch, which has a 33mm movement with a thickness of just 2.60mm, making the case just 6.30mm deep. To ensure a perfect distribution of the parts and optimal functioning, the off-center mono-bloc micro rotor is made of platinum and is bidirectional. This allows for the barrel to be efficiently rewound, and helps create the compact global dimensions for this skeletal, extra-flat movement. The caliber RMXP1 comprises 29 rubies and a frequency of 3Hz.

An Innovative And Elegant Watch

Various details constitute the signature of this simple, yet elegant watch, such as the variable inertia balance wheel, the 42-hour power reserve, the movement’s 16 spline screws in grade 5 titanium, the design of the case, its rigorous execution, the ceramic stem with double joint torque.

Characteristics: Round case, available in titanium, or 18-carat white or red gold, caliber RMPX1. Skeletal dial, automatic rewinding, with hours and minutes, and off center mono-block micro-rotor, variable inertia balance wheel, grade 5 titanium with Titalyt® coating on platinum, and PVD treatment for the bridges, sapphire dial; waterproof up to 30 meters thanks to two torque joints in nitril; 42-hour power reserve.

Key points: One of the characteristics of the automatic extra-flat RM 033 resides in the off-center disposition of the micro-rotor on the interior of the automatic caliber RMXP1. This construction gains several precious millimeters in the overall size of the watch, which has a 33mm movement with a thickness of just 2.60mm.

Le plus: The case is made using the unique construction of three parts and is assembled using 16 spline screws in grade 5 titanium and washers in highly abrasion-resistant 316L stainless steel. The design in completed by the integration of the lugs into the case.

Rolex cosmograph daytona

October 20, 2017

A chronometer born to race,

Rolex is introducing three new versions of its Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona in 18 ct yellow, white or Everose gold. These versions are fitted on the innovative Oysterflex bracelet in elastomer reinforced with a metal blade, and are equipped with a monobloc Cerachrom bezel, patented by Rolex, in black ceramic. This latest evolution is a blend of high technology and sleek aesthetics, and pays tribute to the heritage of this legendary chronograph. The black bezel is reminiscent of the 1965 model that was fitted with a black Plexiglas bezel insert.

Like all Rolex watches, these new Cosmograph Daytona versions carry the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015, which ensures singular performance on the wrist.

CERACHROM BEZEL AND MEASURING SPEED

Created by Rolex in 1963, the Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona is a watch born to race. It has established an extraordinary track record in the world of motor sport thanks to its reliability and performance. Known simply as the “Daytona”, it has risen to the rank of an icon as one of the best known chronographs in the world.

A key part of the model’s identity is the bezel engraved with a tachymetric scale for measuring average speeds of up to 400 units of distance – miles or kilometres – per hour.

The monobloc Cerachrom bezel in high-tech ceramic offers a number of advantages: it is corrosion resistant, virtually scratchproof and the colour is unaffected by UV rays. This extremely durable bezel also offers an exceptionally legible tachymetric scale, thanks to the deposition of a thin layer of 18 ct gold or platinum in the numerals and graduations via a PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) process. The monobloc Cerachrom bezel is made in a single piece and holds the crystal firmly in place on the middle case, ensuring waterproofness.

THE OYSTER CASE, SYMBOL OF WATERPROOFNESS

The Cosmograph Daytona’s Oyster case, guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 100 metres (330 feet), is a paragon of robustness, proportion and elegance. Its characteristically shaped middle case is crafted from a solid block of 18 ct gold. Its fluted case back is hermetically screwed down with a special tool that allows only Rolex watchmakers to access the movement. The winding crown – fitted with the Triplock triple water- proofness system – as well as the chronograph pushers screw down securely against the case. Its crown guard is an integral part of the middle case. The crystal is made of virtually scratchproof sapphire. The water- proof Oyster case provides optimum protection for the Cosmograph Daytona’s high-precision movement.

PERPETUAL CALIBRE 4130

The Cosmograph Daytona is equipped with calibre 4130, a self-winding mechanical chronograph movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. Its architecture, a composite of Rolex technology, was completely re-engineered: the number of components for the chronograph function was reduced significantly, thereby enhancing the movement’s reliability.

The robust chronograph is engaged by a mechanism with a column wheel and vertical clutch, allowing an instant- aneous and extremely precise start. The oscillator, the true heart of the watch, has a blue Parachrom hairspring patented and manufactured by Rolex in an exclusive alloy. Insensitive to magnetic fields, the Parachrom hairspring offers great stability in the face of temperature variations and remains up to 10 times more precise than a traditional hairspring in case of shocks. A Rolex overcoil ensures its regularity in any position. Calibre 4130 is equipped with a self-winding module featuring a Perpetual rotor and boasts a power reserve of approximately 72 hours.

OYSTERFLEX BRACELET AND SAFETY CLASP

The new Cosmograph Daytona versions are fitted on an Oysterflex bracelet, developed and patented by Rolex. This technical bracelet combines in a singular way the robustness and reliability of a metal bracelet with the flexibility, comfort and aesthetics of an elastomer strap. At its core lies a superelastic metal blade overmoulded with high-performance black elastomer, a material that is particularly resistant to environ- mental effects and very durable. The Oysterflex bracelet is also fitted with an 18 ct yellow, white or Everose gold Oysterlock safety clasp that prevents accidental opening. It is equipped with the ingenious Rolex-patented Easylink rapid extension system that allows the wearer to easily increase the bracelet length by approximately 5 mm, for additional comfort in any circumstance.

SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER CERTIFICATION

Like all Rolex watches, the Cosmograph Daytona is covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015. This exclusive designation testifies that the watch has successfully undergone a series of tests conducted by Rolex in its own laboratories according to its own criteria, which exceed watchmaking norms and standards. The certification applies to the fully assembled watch, after casing the movement, guaranteeing super- lative performance on the wrist in terms of precision, power reserve, waterproofness and self-winding. The precision of a Rolex Superlative Chronometer after casing is of the order of −2/+2 seconds per day, or more than twice that required of an official chronometer.

The Superlative Chronometer status is symbolized by the green seal that comes with every Rolex watch and is coupled with an international five-year guarantee.
